July 2010:
This just in! Negotiations are underway for a week long engagement in Paris with the one & only Roy Gaines. Stay tuned...
March 2010:
It's been a busy few months! Most recent news was the return of The Ron King Big Band to the 2010 Java Jazz Festival. This was my third year in a row visiting Jakarta, Indonesia for this huge music festival. (Some have referred to it as the NAMM Show on steroids). Before that, enjoyed some great gigs with Scott Whitfield's group, Mike Clinco's quartet, The Palisades Symphony, Ron King's quartet, and a wonderfully intimate show with vocalist Gina Eckstine.

On a personal note, I'm so delighted to be celebrating my father's 80th birthday this month. As those who know me well can attest, he's happy, healthy, and rarely misses a chance to catch me playing somewhere. Our birthdays are 4 days apart - mine on the 12th and his on the 16th - and I always say I hope whatever helped make him the great man that he is rubs off a little on me too.

Finally, I will be sharing in more detail my experience at the Java Jazz Festival on my blog:

I hope you'll take a moment to visit and share your comments & questions.

Coming up: shows with Scott Whitfield, Bill Watrous & The SG7, and Mike Clinco.

Hope to see you there!

November 2009:
Returned happy, healthy, and well-fed from my first cruise ship gig. Spent a week on the open sea doing the "Blues Cruise 2009" with the legendary Roy Gaines. Had a great time playing, hanging with my bandmates, making friends, and taking in about as much of the I-IV-V chord progression as you can cram into 7 days.

New releases include Izzy Chait's live album For Your Love and Bill Fulton's About 12:00AM. Both are out now with yours truly on bass and are terrific records. Looks for details of Izzy's CD release party show on the "Gigs 2009" page.

Broke down and finally joined MySpace! I promise not to bore you with my moods (which change hourly), cravings, rants, and so on. You can view my new page at: www.myspace.com/adamcohenbass

And that's the latest!

August 2009:

Shared the stage with none other than legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and Oscar-winning composer/trumpet player Mark Isham last Saturday night for a great show at The Celebrity Centre in Hollywood. Also on the bill; Chaka Khan, Chick Corea, and Stanley Clarke. Much to tell you about! I'll be posting details of the evening on my blog very soon. Just click on "Journal" in the menu bar.

Also, just signed on to join the Roy Gaines Blues Band for a week long "Blues Cruise" down to Mexico! Looking forward to smooth sailing; both musically & nautically.

July 2009:
Played on 3 tunes from Bill Fulton's newly released CD About 12:00AM and the whole album looks and sounds great! On my tracks I was joined by Gary Novak, Eric Marienthal, Mike Miller, and the Martin Brothers Horns (Scott, Stan & Andy). What a lineup! Wishing Bill all the best with his new album.

Upcoming dates with Kim Richmond, Ron King Big Band, Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra, and - hopefully - an Adam Cohen Band date sometime in August. Check the "Gigs" page here for more information.

March 2009:
Back from Jakarta! Had a great week at the 2009 Java Jazz Festival. Visit my official blog at: http://bassiklyspeaking.blogspot.com/ for all the details!

Upcoming dates with Paula Cole (CSN 20th Ann. Show), Janelle Sadler, The Kim Richmond Ensemble, The Ron King Quartet, and The Bruce Lofgren Big Band. Visit the "Gigs 2009" page for all the latest.

My composition "The Road Home" premieres at the Java Jazz Festival with a terrific big band arrangement by Bill Fulton!

My father and I both get a year older! (And hopefully, wiser).

December 2008:
A brief mention about the new location of my online journal, Bassikly Speaking. My journal - or "blog" - is a collection of experiences, memories, personal anecdotes, and thoughts on music and beyond that I've kept since January 2005. It can now be viewed at: http://bassiklyspeaking.blogspot.com/

I hope you will visit it from time to time and share your comments & questions.

Busy as ever this month with - among many things - numerous Christmas parties, a session for trombonist/composer Rich Pulin, a Gerry Mulligan tribute at The Lighthouse, a Holiday show with vocalist Izzy Chait, leading a terrific quintet (sax/trombone/vibes/bass/drums) at The Industry Cafe, and a special X-Mas day performance with trumpet great Carl Saunders.

September 2008:
Ritual
now available on iTunes! Also, upcoming dates with Janelle Sadler, David Benoit, and Connie Stevens. In the studio with pianist/composer Robin Swenson. Hope everyone had a great summer...see you on the east coast!

July 2008:
A long overdue update! Played a series of concerts in New Mexico with virtuosic pianist Rob Mullins during the last week of June. Had never been to that state before so it was interesting & enjoyable on several levels; musically, geographically, and culturally. After a rather lazy beginning to July, things are cooking with several very nice upcoming shows. First and foremost is the return of The Adam Cohen Band to La Ve Lee on August 21st. With some fresh faces and some new material, it's sure to be a special evening of music! Among the "fresh faces"; Randy Drake on drums, Andy Langham on keys and, from my record "Ritual" (and who I haven't shared the stage with in quite some time), Jimmy Mahlis on guitar. Rounding out the band is returning saxophonist Rob Hardt.

Other highlights include two highly anticipated engagements with the Ron King Band, and performances with Janelle Sadler, The Bruce Lofgren Big Band, and The Bill Fulton Band. Finally, on a slightly somber note, on July 21st I will be playing in the "house band" for a tribute concert to the recently departed Dave Carpenter...a gifted bassist who died much too young. His absence is being deeply felt in the music community.

March 2008:
Just returned from Jakarta (Indonesia) where I performed with The Ron King Big Band. A great week filled with musical and cultural adventures. Had the pleasure of also backing up a wonderful young vocalist - Renee Olstead - who is under the tutelage of none other than superstar producer David Foster. Signed to Warner Bros., she is undoubtedly poised to enjoy popularity similar to that of Michael Buble; young jazz vocalists bringing the American Songbook to a whole new audience.

Also, look for the debut of the new photo page on my website. Future plans include video clips as well.

I'm pleased to announce that I'm now a member of the Grammy-nominated Legends of Swing. This is a fun, powerful, and swingin' big band that delights listeners - and dancers! - wherever it performs. Visit the "Gigs" page for info on upcoming performances. And that's the latest folks!

February 2008:
Starting off the year busy-busy-busy with session work and dates throughout Los Angeles and the outlying areas. Of note this month? A wonderful tribute show to McCoy Tyner & Sonny Rollins with the Rob Mullins Quartet at Steamers Jazz Club, Friday the 8th. Joining us will be Rob Kyle on sax & Dave Derge on drums. Ingredients for a smoking show indeed! Also, the much anticipated CD release party for my colleague and friend Dr. Bruce Eskovitz at the Jazz Bakery, February 17th. The album - Invitation - has been garnering rave reviews across the board including such stalwart publications as Jazz Times, Downbeat, and our own L.A. Jazz Scene. I'm looking forward to a fun afternoon (showtime is 4pm) of great music.

Happy to be on a recently released album by the wonderful pianist Yuengsooh Cho (hope I got the spelling right). He goes by "Cho" among us musicians around town. The album is called LatinCorea. Look for some fresh & inventive arrangements and some great playing by Cho and my partner on the drums, Jamey Tate.

Also of note, I am currently in the studio for vocalist Gina Saputo's new release. If the latest tracks are any indication, stay tuned for a great record! On board are my rhythm section partners from The Buddy Childers Big Band, Jamey Tate and "Cho".

And that's the latest news!
